The theatre of the absurd

Most certainly (along with Orton) the biggest influence on me creatively were writers  who gained prominence from the so-called ‘Theatre of the Absurd’…The world itself is literally absurd and to demonstrate this in such a creative way, forsaking traditional characterisation and naturalism, and focusing on philosophical ideas, ambiguity and symbolism provides work of great depth and a constant stimulation of thought and reinterpretation…surely the role of Art is to present the world in a different, powerful and thought provoking way to get those creative and intellectual juices flowing and challenge the reader or spectator, as well as provide them with the freedom, to interpret the work in their own way…What do you think?
